Instructions are included with every map, but here are some answers to frequently asked questions about Maps on CD, eBooks and General. Maps on CD Q. Can I pay for CD's and printed books by Cheque? A. Yes you can, from a UK Bank in £ Sterling. Please make payable to Bruce Hunt and include your email address in the covering letter so that I can tell you I have received your order. My address is on the contact page. Q. Will the CD work on my computer? A. Yes. The example pages show you exactly what you will see. Q. Where can I get help with printing from the CD? A. Help is on the disc or click here. Q. Where can I get help with copying a CD? A. Help is on the disc or click here. Q. I have a touchscreen monitor, can I use it to navigate the maps? A. Yes. Links, scrolling and zooming all work with touchscreens. Q. Can I load the maps onto my eBook reader/PDA/Netbook/iPad? A. Perhaps. In theory, if they have a browser installed, it should work. However, small or black and white screens do not display the CD at its best, but if you can plug your computer into a TV or projector the maps look spectacular. Q. How can I see a whole map without scrolling? A. Change the zoom level. 75% will show the whole width for most screens. Q. Internet Explorer says there is active content on the CD. Is this dangerous? A. No. There is no active content, IE confuses some links with scripts (no other browser does this). You can disable the message by going to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, Security, and then ticking the radio button that says "Allow active content from CDs to run on My Computer". Q. Why are the text and map pages different widths? A. 33% of the visitors to this site have a monitor 1024 pixels wide, 33% are 1280 pixels wide. The rest are bigger, except for 3% which are only 800. All the text and scanned text pages are a maximum of 800 pixels wide and the maps are a maximum of 1600, almost exactly in proportion to each other as they appear in the original. To preserve the detail I have made the maps as big as possible without making them unwieldy for the average user. Q. Why don't you use accessibility keys? A. By defining accessibility keys I could accidentally interfere with your settings. Q. Why is the disc written, not pressed? A. The small quantities involved make it too expensive to produce a master for pressing. It also means that any improvements can easily be added. Q. Will there be any more maps? A. Yes there will. They take a long time to make and even longer to test. If you would like to hear about new releases contact me. eBooks Q. Can I pay for eBooks by Cheque? A. No. To keep the cost, and therefore the price so low, the payment and delivery systems are completely automated. Q. Will the eBooks work on my reader? A. Yes. I cannot find any that do not use either .mobi or .epub files. Q. Why does the Gift Diary only run for 8 weeks? A. This is PayPal's time limit for issuing free refunds. If something were to change after this time it would cost us both money. Q. Why does the Gift Diary start tomorrow, not today? A. The Gift Diary checks itself every 12 hours to see if there is anything to do. If you are in a different time zone it might not find your order until the next day (where you are). If we are in the same time zone and you order a gift in the evening, it won't find your order until the next morning. Q. Why are there some blank pages in an eBook? A. There are no blank pages in any of my books but some readers automatically insert one at the end of a chapter. If you don't like this, or are unhappy with your machine's formatting options, experiment with different reader software. Q. I use Firefox and cannot save the .epub file. A. If you you have the EPUBReader add-on installed you must disable it before you can save .epub files. Simply re-enable it afterwards. Q. I use Internet Explorer and eBooks from other sites arrive as a .zip file, why? A. This will not happen here because I have a fix in place. Install any other browser and try again. Q. Will there be any more eBooks? A. Yes there will, every month. I have an inexhaustible collection of suitable, interesting, relevant or peculiar books. General Q. Is maps.thehunthouse.com the same as maps.thehunthouse.net? A. Yes, maps.thehunthouse.com is the new name. oldlondonbooks.co.uk and .com are also part of maps.thehunthouse and exist for technical reasons. Q. How do I stop you telling me about new releases? A. Reply to any email on the subject or contact me. Q. What about my privacy? A. I take your privacy very seriously and so do PayPal. They do not give me your Bank or Credit card details and I will not keep records of cheques once the transaction is complete. I will not contact you again unless you have explicitly requested updates nor will I pass your details to any third party.
